The Tabernacle
For fathers and sons. October 23-25,
Westview on the James

This October we're running our third Treign Up event of the year. The Tournament tested our minds in competition. The Trial tested our bodies. The Tabernacle is about our spirits — and it's the one I believe will mark our sons the deepest.

In the Old Testament, the tabernacle was the place people went to meet with God. That's what this weekend is. Fathers and sons, together at a retreat center on the James River, entering God's presence and doing battle with the three enemies every man and every boy faces: the Devil and his lies, the flesh and its appetites, and the world and its noise.

Here's some of what the weekend holds. Teaching on spiritual warfare and how lies take root in us and in our family lines. Morning workouts with our sons. Free time in the woods and on the water — canoes, hiking, archery, or just sitting with your boy. Time to identify the specific lies that have been running our families, and a fire ceremony where we write them down and burn them. Men praying over each family, out loud. And on Sunday morning, a blessing ceremony where every father lays hands on his son and speaks truth over him in front of a company of men.

Most of us never watched our fathers fight for us spiritually. Our sons are going to watch us do it.
