I recently saw the movie “Disclosure Day”. I was on the road and I needed to unwind. Also, they (the media and director Steven Spielberg) said it would challenge my faith. I thought that was a bit bombastic to say that a movie about aliens would challenge my faith.
Let’s start with this: I don’t care if there are aliens out there. It doesn’t change anything for me. The movie makes a point that knowing if there are aliens in the bigger picture means we are not alone. I am not alone. I’m never alone. Jesus says that He is with me always; even until the end of time. I would add that that movie didn’t challenge my faith at all. If it did, I would say that I didn’t have faith to begin with since faith is believing in the unseen. My faith is firm. My take is completely different. Why are we seeing an uptick of interest in extra terrestrial life? By almost every measurable indicator, there is substantially more public and scientific interest in extraterrestrial life today.
Twenty-five years ago, asking whether life existed elsewhere was largely a philosophical question. Today, scientists expect that they may be able to detect strong evidence for microbial life—or at least biosignatures—in the coming decades through observations of exoplanets or exploration of worlds like Mars, Europa, or Enceladus. There is ONE MORE explanation that isn’t receiving much wide-spread attention. It’s SPIRITUAL. I may or may not believe in aliens but I certainly believe in angels and demons. I believe that spirit realm is more real than the physical realm and that spiritual realities like the law of sowing and reaping are even more sure than gravity. I believe that our strongest yearnings and desires as humans and human beings is more aligned with spiritual reality than even what we ‘know’ to be true of the physical realms around us. We are spiritual beings in a larger sense than we are physical beings. That is a side note to this discussion. What I really believe is most important to this conversation is that it is a sign of the times we live in. Jesus himself said that the last days would be marked by two very strong spirits: Deception and Lawlessness. (Matthew 24 and 1Thessalonians) Every sign that the Bible speaks of as being the “last or latter days” is obvious to anyone who is alert and sober minded. I believe that that next prophetic event in the timeline marking Christ’s SURE return is the Rapture. At that time, ALL of the Christians will be taken out of the world and there will be no other explanation for this cataclysmic event. EXCEPT for ALIENS. A world ruled by deception and lawlessness will EASILY fall for a headline that explains the rapture as an alien abduction. Steven Spielberg and every other doomsday prophet are just a mouthpiece for Satan’s strategy. The last thing our enemy wants is for the rapture event to be an evangelical outreach where more people than ever before will be saved from damnation and Hell fire because they understand that the rapture has certainly catapulted the world into the last days. For many of our loved ones ‘left behind’ this will be the final wake-up call. Scripture is clear that many will come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ because of the rapture, but they will be martyred for their faith during the ‘great and terrible day of the Lord.’ I believe that this urgency to convince the world that aliens exist is a necessary (evil) pre-cursor leading up to what I hope is an event that happens in my lifetime. The trumpet will blow and in the twinkling of an eye, we will be changed from mortal to immortal. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air. And so, we will be with the Lord forever (1 Thess 4:17) We are all aliens in this world. But this is NOT our home.
