Joy In the Journey: 25 Devotions On the Way to Christmas
All good stories are about the journey; not the destination. The days leading to Christmas should be filled with the wonder and awe of expectation and be every bit a part of the Christian's journey towards Christmas day. These devotions are based on a play that I wrote in the early 1990s and performed with my wife during the early years of our ministry. It was scenes from the Christmas story focusing on the relationship between its two primary players, Mary and Joseph. The angel, Gabriel, who takes on the likeness of a good old-fashioned storyteller, sitting on a stool in front of a general store in the rural south, provides levity and insight to the love story behind the love story. It was a delightful and poignant walk in the footsteps of two ordinary people called to do an extraordinary thing. That's the way of God, isn't it? He calls us to follow their 'lead' and accept the role he's called us to play in his cosmic drama. "Let it be done to me according to your will." 25 days leading up to the Incarnation. The very essence of the event is dramatic. Each day has a reference from the play, a corollary scripture verse, a commentary, and application in the form of an ADVENT-ure. You've been invited to come along for the ride. Don't miss the journey. That's where the JOY is.
